Empower with HarmonyOs: A+B+C

2025-12-11 160

On June 20th, at the Songshan Lake venue of the Huawei Developer Conference 2025, a revolution in industrial intelligent manufacturing was unfolding. In the industrial manufacturing section of the OpenHarmony exhibition area, Empower took the stage with the theme "Soaring Ambition, Empowering Laser Intelligent Manufacturing," fully unveiling its "A+B+C" Open Ecosystem Strategy. This not only represents a leap for laser equipment from "hardware tools" to an "intelligent ecosystem" but also marks a new phase of deep vertical integration for Industrial HarmonyOS into specialized fields.

As HarmonyOS 6 ushers in the era of full-scenario intelligence with over 70 innovative technologies, and as the codebase of OpenHarmony surpasses 130 million lines—spanning eight key sectors including government affairs and finance—Empower's xEOS operating system is becoming a defining footnote in this wave of industrial digitization with its unique "edge-device fusion" architecture. As Empower states: "Our mission is to equip laser machinery with a true 'autonomous soul,' and Industrial HarmonyOS serves as the digital vessel for this soul."

A (Automation): The Neural Center for Software-Defined Manufacturing

In traditional laser processing, the hardware limitation of "one machine, one function" acts like shackles on equipment. Empower's automation software system breaks this constraint. Based on the xEOS edge operating system, its self-developed soft PLC/soft CNC architecture enables flexible production with "dynamic parameter configuration." At a heavy equipment base in Kunshan, this system has reduced the order response cycle to 3 days and increased material utilization to 87%, equivalent to saving 30 tons of steel waste per machine annually.

B(Beam): The Hardware Confidence Backed by a 60% Global Market Share

At the center of the exhibition booth, the GF multi-axis series intelligent laser cutting head became the focal point. This product utilizes frameless motor direct drive and full closed-loop control, achieving a bevel cutting accuracy for pipes at the 0.01mm level. Behind its technical specifications lies Empower's dominant 60%-70% global market share in the cutting head sector. Even more noteworthy is that these hardware components are no longer isolated "blocks of metal." Through the xEOS platform, they enable two-way interaction between "laser transmission and data feedback," forming a closed loop for process optimization.

C (Connect): The Solution for Process Assetization

"We refuse to become a 'black box' that monopolizes processes." Empower's xAPP ecosystem platform is redefining industry standards—by encapsulating process knowledge, such as welding parameters and cutting trajectories, into "industrial miniprograms." This enables small and mediumsized enterprises to access and deploy validated process templates without heavy R&D investment. This model of "process assetization" has already shown tangible results in the field of electronic component microprocessing. For instance, one collaborating enterprise improved its product yield by 22% by utilizing a builtin algorithm for 3Dprinted support structures on the platform.

At the technical foundation, Empower's Harmony xEOS operating system features a unique "dual-engine" architecture:

Edge HarmonyOS: The non-real-time system based on OpenHarmony handles data aggregation and cloud collaboration, acting as the factory's "central nervous system." It interfaces with MES systems and manages production scheduling.

Device-side HuCheng: The self-developed real-time motion control system functions like the "motor nervous system," achieving nanosecond-level responsiveness to control every movement of the laser head.

This architecture was perfectly demonstrated in the laser welding subsystem previewed at the Munich Laser World of Photonics—during highdynamic welding, the HuCheng system controlled the laser heads movement at 500mm/s, while the HarmonyOS edge system analyzed weld seam images in real time. Their coordination improved welding efficiency by 40%. An automotive manufacturing engineer on-site remarked, "It’s like equipping laser devices with a 'brain' and 'limbs'—and they’re independently developed in China."

The laser industry has long faced challenges such as hardware homogenization and monopolized processes. Empower, together with partners, is breaking through these barriers by building a "Laser Central Kitchen." This approach standardizes A+B+C capabilities into reusable "ingredients," allowing integrators and channel partners—like chefs—to develop their own "process recipes" on the xEOS platform.

This open model is attracting participation from across the industrial chain:

Hardware Partners: Raytools and Empower have formed a complementary product portfolio.

Software Developers: The xAPP ecosystem has gathered over 50 industry-specific process applications.

End Users: Application scenarios span more than 20 industries, from new energy battery electrode cutting to aerospace composite material processing.

At the interactive exhibition area of the Huawei Developer Conference, a hybrid additive-subtractive manufacturing system featuring "simultaneous printing, cutting, and welding" particularly caught the eye. Developed based on Empower's xEOS platform, this system seamlessly integrates 3D printing with laser processing, showcasing the imaginative potential of manufacturing empowered by the Industrial HarmonyOS ecosystem.

As Empower illuminated the "A+B+C" ecosystem blueprint on the stage of HDC 2025, it revealed a broader vision: leveraging Industrial HarmonyOS as the foundational technology to empower Chinese manufacturing in breaking free from the constraints of process dependency. As the exhibition slogan stated, "Not all laser equipment possesses a soul, and an autonomous, controllable operating system is the vessel that carries this soul."

Today, from its factory in Songjiang to markets worldwide, Empower’s xEOS platform has been deployed on over 30,000 pieces of equipment, generating over 2 billion RMB in process value annually for customers. With the release of the HarmonyOS Intelligent Agent Framework (HMAF), the system is poised to integrate with AI large models in the future, enabling advanced capabilities for autonomous process optimization.

The laser beam cuts through not just material, but also the boundaries of traditional manufacturing. As the light of Industrial HarmonyOS illuminates every smart device, we witness not only the technological breakthrough of a single enterprise, but also a Chinese solution for an entire industry's leap from "manufacturing" to "intelligent manufacturing."
